Four fussy friends found five funny frogs.
Every one of the seven words starts with F. Slip, and five turns into vive or fine turns into vine.
👅 Sounds to Practise
- F /f/, as in four, fussy, found, five and funny. Gently touch your top teeth to your bottom lip and push air out. Your throat does not buzz.
- FR /fr/, as in friends and frogs. Start with the F, then slide straight into the R, with the tongue pulled back and the lips a little rounded.
Quick test: put a finger on your throat and say F, then V. For V you feel a buzz. For F you do not.
🐢 Start Slow
Say each chunk slowly.
Four fussy friends
found five
funny frogs.
🚶 Normal Speed
Say it at a natural pace, with the stressed syllables in capitals:
FOUR FUSsy FRIENDS FOUND FIVE FUNny FROGS.
🚀 Tongue-Twister Mode
Say it three times in a row, as fast as you can:
Four fussy friends found five funny frogs.
If it falls apart, that is normal. Slow down and try again. Keep the F light, with no buzz in your throat.
🤯 Why Is This So Difficult?
The lip and teeth do the same job seven times in a row.
four fussy friends found five funny frogs
- The lower lip touches the top teeth again and again, so it has no rest.
- Friends and frogs ask the mouth to move from the F position straight into the R position in one move.
- Found five funny has three F words in a row. It is easy to repeat or skip one.
👀 Words to Notice
These pairs change when F becomes V, or P:
- fan / van
- fine / vine
- ferry / very
- fan / pan
- fig / pig
Say each pair slowly. Feel the buzz for V, and none for F.
