Work On: Not the Same as Work Out

Work on means to spend time and effort improving or finishing something, and it can also mean trying to persuade someone.

What Does Work On Mean?

Work on means to spend time and effort on something to make it better or to finish it. The thing is not done yet. You are still working.

  1. Put effort into something: improve it or finish it.
  2. Try to persuade a person: keep asking until they agree.

I'm working on my spelling.
Leo is working on a model of a castle.

So work on is about the process, not the result. A lot of the time it means "I'm not finished yet".
