Sit Down: The Calm Opposite of Stand Up

What Does Sit Down Mean?

Sit down means lower yourself into a seat. It is the opposite of stand up. It can also mean to settle in and talk something over: sit down together to sort out a plan.

Please sit down and wait for your turn.

Sit down is about your own action, so it takes no object.
